Just brought this home.
It was on C/L for three weeks.
I just could pass it up for $175!

I think it's a 995. But I don't see any tags on it.
Cool how they used two mufflers on it.
Are the posi traction?

So, I started to work on it.
First checked the drive shaft.
Seemed ok.
Engine turned over by hand.
Seems to have compression.
Ignition switch is indeed bad. As the seller told me.
But, I get no life out of the starter!
Jumped it directly, still nothing.
So, removed it.
Not as straight forward as it could have been!

I mostly own Kohlers.
I could just borrow a starter for another tractor.
But, with Briggs, I don't have a good one around.
In fact I have a Wheel Horse C-111 that needs a starter out back.
Looks like I'll have to bit the bullet, pony up the money and buy a new one.
Maybe I could use it for both!

Little lesson for ya. All Briggs Vertical shaft starters, and all vanguard starters are interchangeable. I belive the I/C ones are too!
Yes, they only made two different mounting castings.
One with the screws parral to the axis. And, one perpendicular to the axis.
They did however make starters with three different body lengths.

Well, had a pretty good day!
Put the new starter in. New ignition key. New tube in front tire.
New front wheel bushings. Ordered some more washers for the wheels.
Started right up and ran strong!
Only problem I had is that the new starter is too long.
So, I had to remove the ducting from around the muffler on that side.
Hydro is nice and quite. Every thing works as it should.
Three point hitch worked good. Got a hammer to the bent parts.
They straightneed right out. Need to get a center link and restrictor chains.
Center link seems like it should be 15" long?
De-carb and tune up are next.
I'm missing the headlight bezel. Does anyone have an extra they'd like to sell?

Thanks for the update. Sounds like the tractor is close to working again.
