Hello again. My Sears ST-10 has been put through the test of time and ....

Just got a 917.253010 plow and decided to see what this tired ol' girl can do, besides mow the lawn and pull a branch or two. It was getting late but I had to try a few cuts if I could.

The first pass was to get used to the plow and to see how it was cutting. Keep in mind I don't have any wheel weights on her yet and no chains. That first pass proved she AIN'T TIRED. The plow hooked a root, started unearthing it and then the ol' girl started to pop the front end in the air!!! I backed her up and lifted the plow enough to get over the root and continued to cut and turn.

I made a second pass to see if it would cut deeper than it did the first time. Damn, I hooked that root again and it busted. About 3" diameter!!!!

Tried a 3rd pass on a new line, fresh cut. Again, not quite as deep as I think it should be.

Well it's dark now so I'll have to get pics of the plowing in the morning, but, here is the ol' girl and the plow.

Glad you got to turn some dirt with it! Looks quite capable to me!

Thanks for the encouragement, everyone. As I said, I will get pics and got a couple before the rain came down.

Here is the plow busting that virgin soil. Feel free to tell me what I can do to do a better job. This is my first plow job.

When making an opening furrow in new ground, you can take the three point all out of adjustment and compensate mostly for the lack of a hole to put your tire in, but I mainly just ignore the issue, by the second pass, it's all good. Another thing to do is put some down pressure on the handle, as much as your traction will allow. Should give you a decent first furrow with a little practice.

If you have it set anywhere near correct, speed will help suck the plow down too but since it is brand new ground, I think it is doing pretty well. My guess is that if it ripped that 3 inch root, you probably did have it in second gear.

Okay. So I had to wait an extra day to get back to plowing and finally got another 5 rows ripped before the ST-10 stopped on me. I figured she was tired so I let her rest for an hour and went back to start her. Now she started surging. Moved it back to the garage after replacing the spark plug. Still surging. Looked up info via youtube (thanks to all that post videos) on why it surges. Now I learn how to find the model # and such, learned that my motor is a replacement upgrade to an 11 HP B&S, and I learned how to adjust the carb.

So I cleaned it up, removed the headlight panel to get the model # so I can get a manual, etc. Washed out the sponge air cleaner, air dried it and then gave it the oil dip it calls for. Then I focused on the carb adjust and to make sure the governor is working right.

It took some time to get the carb in the right spot. Temperamental design I will say.

Now that I have her running well, again I gave her another oil change and trekked out to plow some more. I top off the gas tank and head out to plowland.

I get out to the area and get three passes before my next delay. The tension spring for the drive sprocket idler pops off the frame and I hear the drive chain slapping all around and the tractor isn't moving. CRAP!!!!

So, back to the shop to fetch a gas can and the siphon. Need to flip the tractor over on her side to find the mount on the frame where the spring goes. Finally got her flipped and find the mount. reattached the spring and flipped her back over on all fours. Yes. I did remove the plow before I tried flipping her.

It's now about dark and I'm tired. Took her back to the shop. I'll try again tomorrow, but, I am wondering if these are signs to NOT plow this area of my property. Hmmmmm.

Interesting design on the headlights.
So you got 8 rows done in spite of delays..., it's something at least.
Glad you're getting the bugs worked out and making headway too.

The thing is this is my yard mower and was running fine up until I started plowing. And it was used to being tilted sideways cutting on a bank. So I don't get it. :wallbanging: :deadhorse:
