I bought my 1973 Bolens 1055 for 55 bucks on the night of November 15, 2013. The guy I got it from said itd never run again. I have to admit, It was pretty rough. The engine and transmission were both bad according to the seller. After 2 years of hard work, it still isnt all the way finished, but its alot of fun driving down the road with the original engine and transmission still in it.
So I got it loaded up onto the trailer and took it home. Charged the battery and the starter turned but that was it. Turns out my ring gear was bad. Only being 12 or 13 at the time, I didnt know how to do much with all that. I knew how engines worked but not really how to fix them. So after a few months I got it all stripped down and started disassembling the engine. Everything looked good, so real concerns. Reassembled the engine and after a while of parts swapping and research i got the engine back together. Finally it was all painted and close to done. I put a ton of work into it. Reassembled the engine, rebuilt the starter, reassembled the transmission that had nothing wrong with it. All that was wrong was that the axle wasnt locked. And then the carb broke. It was a good thing it broke before i had it going but with no internet, i had no way of finding a rebuilt kit for my carb, let alone the right one. After about 3 months the carb was rebuilt. On November 15th of 2015, exactly 2 years to the day of purchase, I crank it over and it started up. I hadnt exactly even realized what had happened. I just sat there like nothing was going on for a few seconds until it hit me. The beast was running. I couldnt believe it. Now its driving and getting ready for tractor pulls and plow days this spring. I got Massey Ferguson wheel weights on it that are 25 lbs a peice of which there are 4 of them. And a 250 lbs IH hook weight that is 100 lbs that will sit in the fenders. It still isn't finished but im the proud owner of a 1973 Bolens 1055. I have a youtube channel also. MisfitMowers Sct. Alot of videos of truck and tractor stuff get uploaded. Check it out. Thanks guys.
