I guess I never have done an actual thread on this machine. I bought it last summer for $400 and then the problems began. You can read my thread about the Onan where I describe how I actually got it.

Here's a couple pics when I brought it home.

Due to lose starter, out came the motor and dirty one it was.

Find a host of problems besides starter issue, safety's bypassed, leaks, locked up carrier bearing, ujoints super tight, pivot bushing shot, lose steering, rubber isolators broke down, rear pto driveshaft missing, etc.

I came across a guy in Indy parting out 2 1655's and I was heading there in a few weeks from his sale so it all worked out. I think I got parts I need to get her all back together.

Here she sits since last winter, just waiting....

and all that because of this 1 broken bolt. Guess it was a blessing as I wouldn't have found other worn parts if starter hadn't kicked out due to broken mount bolt.

So why I got your attention....

Does the rear cover have a seal around the crankshaft? Mine was coated with oil, not sure its gasket on the plate or round seal, figured I would replace both while she is out.

Does plate come right off after removing 6 bolts?

The one behind the pto

Does the electric PTO look normal, didn't work when I got it, but PO said switch shorted out.

Coil/magnet is just dirty other than a small piece of covering peeling off.

Clean looking tractor. Boy I'd love that 3ph set up
I have no plans on restore right now, just get it up running and working. Plans are it will be at plow day next fall, gotta find a plow first!

I would like to get deck going for my field and plans are to make a small FEL for it. I already have 5' back blade in pics and a 54" snow blade I can make mount for. This thing makes my sears look little!

Previous owner use for last 6-8 yrs just grading his steep driveway after heavy rains....and I think to clean horse stalls. The "biscuits" I found on top of mower deck told that story.

Nice project. Coil looks ok. Not too cracked or anything. Like Daniel said, they are easy to test. It does have a crank seal. Should be able to pull it out with an O-ring pick.

5 bolts removed and light prying and end cover pulled right off. I can tell where oil was getting past paper gasket so that was probably oil leak. The end seal looks like an axle bearing seal. May try to see if there is any local Cummins dealer before hitting internet sales.

The PO said about 10 yrs ago for a winter project, he pulled motor over winter and rebuild the motor just because he "wanted to" . The crank bearing in the from cover looks almost brand new, no wear what so ever. I've rebuild a few SBC 350's and this bearing has no wear. Maybe he was right and motor has very low hours. Other parts I see look very clean, no sludge so maybe I got a lucky score motor wise.

I do know carb will need cleaned, had surging when I brought I home.

Tahoe, that is a fine looking machine and for $400 you basically bought the 3pt and tossed another $100 in for the rest of the tractor and deck... VERY nice deal and if you want your money back just let me know.

Yea sure Bobby, come on up and get it....NOT!!!!! :D

Yea, I bought the 3 pt including a 5' scraper blade and got tractor free, I think I did well even with the repairs and parts I've had to buy.

My Sears buddy keeps telling me to sell it and stick with my sears, I think he just wants it haha.

Glad you posted, reminded me I need to order the crank gasket and seal.
