Hello,

I am Marco from the Netherlands and new here. I have bought a Gravely 816 in Belgium a few weeks ago. It is not a common machine here in the Netherlands so I was looking for more than a year to find one.I found one in the french part of Belgium. I have bought the machine from a picture because I don't speak any french. (Only communication via Google Translate :))

Problems found so far:

- Secondary ignition coil broken

- Starter motor series coil damaged

- Hydraulic lift no oil.

What I did last weeks;

Before i found a replacement for the ignition coil i tried to open it. I clamped it into the vise and luckely it maked contact again. Maybe for a short time but it works for the moment.

Rewinded the series coils for the starter with copper wire from an old forklift charger transformer.

Cleaned carburator and fuel pump.

Put back the breaker box in place

Made some externally wires for starter and ignition.

Yesterday first attempt to start. After 10 seconds starting it runs. Only for a few seconds because I was forgotten to lock the extra flywheel weihgt. Flywheel came off at high speed. After putting everything back (Luckely nothing damaged) it started within a few seconds.

I made a short testdrive:

No hydraulic lift. Added oil so lift works.

Gearbox and clutch forward and reverse all works. A lot of play on the high/low lever.

A lot of play on the steering system.

So far the first drive. Still a lot to do.

No parts available here so I have to found a source in America what will ship for a resonable price to Europe.

Also I have to found somewhere implements like a mower.

Regards, Marco

Welcome. That's a good ole tractor.

It sounds like you are very mechanical and resourceful of making things work. Great job!

Hi,

Motor is an Onan CCKA-MS2111G.

Does somebody now if the lift rod and the rod for the high/low gear should be bended or straight?

In the IPL they look straight but I am not sure if it will fit when they are straight.

Opening coils, rewinding starter coils, man, that must take patience and skill. Overseas, you must have to rebuild more, we here just replace things broken. I get chuckle out of differences in terms and names of components being different also between the lands. We have a few fellas from your way on here, might want to connect with them for sources too. Good luck with repairs and show us how it's done!

From the first pic, I would say they should have the bend in them. That looks real similar to the 450 I have.
