Here is the "followed me home" pic from earlier this evening. The hood and side panels are in the back of my Range Rover as they had a huge battery to fire her up. Has the typical ailments these were prone to, under powered direct drive starter and the piss poor glow plug set up. Making her a real bear to start with even the highest CCA L&G battery you can get. A gear reduction starter, additional ground strap and upgraded glow set up to get full 12vt to the fast heat glow plugs will be done asap. Then I can start on the cosmetics. I even have 3 of the original 4 plain hub caps. She is a one owner tractor, her late husband bought it new. Her grand daughter was selling it for her after she got a nice new ZTR to mow her yard.
Deck is a 50". I also, found it has a hidden bonus, dealer installed power steering!!! VERY rare option on these and expensive. He loaded it and for the price, I wasnt worried about much since the diesel runs awsome. I will be looking for a solid 44" mower deck as a 50 is super tight to get into my shed. But its way down the list of needs right now.
Here are a few more pics after doing some more work on it today. I wish the rest of the paint was as nice as the side panels. I put a temporary taller top pipe on the muffer. I will get a nicer turn out style from Kubota here soon. I am going to try to update the glow system before the spring Portland swap meet so I can use her as a butt buggie, my golf cart still needs lots of electrical gremlins fixed. If I jump 12v right to the plugs, I have enough battery to get her going. So thats tomorrow and tuesday's project before work. Voltage loss thru the key switch and glow indicator make the stock system very poor and consume tons of battery power by the time the glow plugs get hot. The power steering cylinder is up inside the frame and hard to see. I will try to get some shots from under the tractor tomorrow. Here are today's pics.
Made a bit more progress, gear reduction started mounted up, new glow plugs being fed full 12v via a proper relay to handle the amp draw. The start position is bad on the key switch, so a momentary toggle is the temporary solution as a new key switch is $100! She was still slow to start making exhaust smoke and starting, found that the fuel cut off arm was sluggish to return to the full fuel position. I am thinking the dash lever was left in the cutoff position for several years combined with a gummy spring. I added a booster spring to pull the lever back to full fuel, now she starts right up like she should. The 50c mower deck is quiet running, didnt even have grass inside it, just a light coating of rust. Blades need sharpened bad though. Hope to repaint the hood and fenders soon, the color reminds me of a Farmall that has been left out in the weather for decades.
