]Ok, I think I bought a massey 1450(that's what the hood says anyway) a few months ago. But I'm not sure the serial# is 24206121 and the model # is 1650A. How can I tell what engine I have I can't find any tags on it??? Are there any telltale signs from a 14 h and 16h???? I could really use some help I have a leak where the drive shaft enters the hydro/tranny? and I the skill to do the work but don't know the part number, because I don't even what I have??

The 50 series engines used stickers instead of punched in engine numbers. I hate stickers for important stuff like ID plates!!! The 14/16's engines had totally different oil pans. The 14/16 had solid mounts with the mounting ears right off the bottom sides of the oil pan. The 50 series engines mounted to a rubber bushed engine mount, and the mounting ears off the engine were above the bottom of the oil pan. The correct engine on a 1450 would be a K321AQS, and a 1650 would be a K341AQS. The "A" stands for the special oil pan, the "Q" stands for "quietline series", and the "S" for electric start.
If your chassis ID plate says 1650, then someone likely replaced the hood from one off a 1450. As to the engine ID between a 14 & 16hp, under the electric pto clutch, on the block near the crankshaft output, the model number will be cast into the engine...either K321 or K341.

It is a 16hp. However, at some point some one put a hood from a 1450. I guess I got a good deal I only payed $500 for it with a 42" snow blower every thing works but it does leak where the drive shaft enters the hydro/tranny I just need to find a place to get the seals and I should be set. Thank You for the link it was just what I needed.
