Hello. My name is Wayne and I am own a Snapper 1855. I was doing a search for some parts for it and ran across this site. I just had to join. It's a 1982 Snapper 1855 that my dad bought new in '83 (when I was 9), and I bought it from him in 2003. It's been a great tractor, although it's been nickel and diming me the past couple of years. I've rebuilt the carb, replaced the starter twice (NOT a fun job), and fixed a dozen other little things. I have the 48" rear tiller, rake, rear blade, 54" belly mower, vac-n-pac grass catcher, and 48" snow thrower. It's nice to see so many still being used.

Here it is this past winter waiting for the big snow.

Thanks. I finally got around to put the mower deck and grass catcher on today (was mowing 3 acres with my little 42" Scotts before this). That's my backup mower when the Snapper is down and the trimmer/edger the rest of the time. I'll get some new pics with it decked out in it's mowing gear. I swear it does a beautiful job of mowing with the grass catcher on. Only problem is that when the grass is a little tall, I have to empty the catcher about a dozen times! lol Good thing I have a garden, cause that's where the clippings go, to help tame the weeds.

:welcome: Wayne:wave: Glad to have you here. Nice looking rig you have there. Those are very tough tractors and worth putting some time and money into.

Thanks guys. It's been garage kept it's whole life (except for a handful of times that it had to stay outside due to cleaning out the garage). It still has the original tires on it. It seems to be a tad down on power, but after talking with my cousin who is a garden tractor fanatic, I think it might need a coil replacement since it still has the original coil, which is 28 years old. lol

If she's not misfiring, then the coil isn't the power issue. How long since the timing was checked? The point's push pin may have worn down, causing late timing.

That is a great tractor you have there and to have all the toolage for it is even better. I am hoping that i will eventually find a tiller for my 1655.

Thanks to all for the kind words. I just finished mowing the back yard ~2 1/2 acres, and snapped some pics of the tractor and the yard...they're downloading now. I kept losing power with the mower and the blower (grass catcher) running both yesterday and today. So this morning I made an order from Onanparts.com. I wanted to cover all bases, so I ordered an ignition coil, plugs & wires, points assembly, a condenser, and an ignition breaker plunger (thanks for the tip olcowhand), along with an air filter and oil filter. Hopefully, that should get it back up to running like it's an 18 horse engine again.

BTW, olcowhand, it does misfire a little. When it's idling, it will "piff" every couple of seconds, and the governor keeps moving. And at wide open throttle, it does the same thing, and sometimes it will just die out a little, then I have to stop and let it build the rpms back up, then I can take off again. My cousin said that his dad's International tractor acted the same way, where he used to mow in 2nd gear (3 spd), it got to where he couldn't pull a hill in 1st. My cousin suggested he change the coil and it took care of the problem. My Onan could use all of those parts that I bought anyway, so hopefully, they'll help put some life back in her.
