Hello, Now you awesome people of Garden Tractor Talk have helped me to get my tractor running, I have now a new issue. The tractors wheels always seem to be either going forward or backwards on pedal, and i cannot find the neutral position. The pedal moves easily with no "locking indents" for neutral, and you can see the mechanism underneath moving. It is a like C shaped piece of metal which has a bar in the middle which is to control the pedal forward and backwards movement, and that is all moving and taps the bar in centre. Is there something i am missing, or could there be a sticking valve, only way to start it easily is by jacking back wheels up off floor and starting then letting it go and hope for best basically, with no neutral just switch engine off!

Thank you Ladies & Gentlemen!

By applying the brake it should lock in the neutral position. The XL Series service manual is in our manuals section and you can download. Section 3 about page15 explains how to adjust for no rear wheel turn in neutral. Those XL tractor are an awesome tractor. I have 4 of them. Good luck.

Got it running, and you literally got to balance the pedal within millimetres to gain a neutral, and had the brake on and locked with hand brake as far as it would go and it still was trying to move. I will take a look at the manual, Thanks Chieffan!
