Picked up a Terramite T5c today. Super nice family, had bought in an estate auction. Figured be something I could haul down to my land and dig a few holes and ditches. Is an mid 90's model. Power steering. Paid $4500 for it. I believe I can use it for a year and still get what I paid for it. Good bit of hours, but no smoke, good power.

Took me a second to fight with my computer to upload them....not the best pictures.... part of it was in the shade. Will be after xmas before I can get the hose made and get some digging time in! Supposed to be able to dig 8ft deep....
Nice new addition. I bet you can get in lots of trouble with that.

I have been working on it "refreshing it" for the past week. I have replace all the filters, 1 hydraulic hose with 2 more to go. I cylinder weeps a little but not enough to repack at this point. I really want to put some seat time on it this weekend. Motor is running better and not taking such a hit when I am operating the booms and fel. I have posted the tierod ends that I replaced using Napa parts that the Terramite service guys gave the numbers on......this does not look right to me. Right now I have bought and replaced 2 (power steering cylinder and one on the left side of the tractor). This is just does not look right, so before I buy another one (at $59 each).....wanted y'alls input. I tried to get on the terramite site to send the picture to their service guys but their site must be down at this point......

looks like it should be flipped over to me. i think the angle will match then.

I agree.....but you would think they would want them to be on top so as not to snag anything as you were driving??

I posted on another site that has other terramite owners, hoping someone over there can verify how theirs is set up.
That just doesn't look right to me. Scott how did the old one look compared to this? Was the Bar( Center link) on the bottom before?

The angle will be better but is it correct? Try and see if you can locate a manual online.

Looks like a great machine!!

Chris it was set up this way when I bought it....the original tierod was shot so hard to tell if it was correct.

I have a parts/service manual and based on the picture the tierods are mounted correctly......the tierods used were the NAPA parts number that the Terramite service guy gave me. I am doing more research, but I agree....it does not look right.

Geno,

Thanks....yep I am trying to find out more...these tierods are way to expensive to be putting the wrong ones on.

Who knows maybe it is right. There could be a reason why they did it this way. Or PO got tired of snagging things and flipped it over?

Good luck in your searching! It looks like one heck of a great machine.
I would agree looks like should be coming from bottom, yet then the taper on end won't fit and the connecting rod would have to be outside of that tin there. AND, would have to flip other side to match. What's other side look like? Any chance (since it was shot) that that steer arm on axle end got bent down? Seems it looks like pretty thick casting tho, not just steel stock, so probly can't be bent. Looks like new end has right bend, just opposit way that is needed here. Wonder if there is a closer part number that is same part, diff bend, kinda like a right or left say or ??????

Good news and maybe bad? The tierods are supposed to be bolted in from the bottom. I have not had time to check to see how much the taper was been damaged.....maybe a big deal maybe not.(I replaced them just as the previous owner had them installed)

Also I found a Dana flange that should be replaced. Part #2-1-1881x.....doing some research now. Made by Dana, there has to be another applications for it. The price from the company was $255 dollars. I found one for less than $200, but you would think there would be used ones that came off a vehicle.....that is what I am looking into now......

It looks like this. The part shows up on military, aviation, and other parts sites. I think it could be mated to a Dana 44 rear end.

I dont have a picture, it is still on the tractor. I suspect that most of these earlier Terramites have this issue and the owners do not know to check for it.

From what I have seen so far. That is the same picture I have come up with, and it looks like it was most common on the Dana 44 but it looks like it was on Dana 60 and 70 also

I am assuming it is the 10 spline one? I'll keep looking.

Scott, is that flange you show perhaps the hub that sits on the axle that the wheel bolts to? If so, does it wobble? I'm asking because I've got a Massey gear drive with wobbly hubs and haven't come up with a good solution.
Scott this maybe the Flange on Ebay. there is also another one that looks the same and is half this price. I picked this as it has more pictures. http://www.ebay.com/itm/DANA-Rear-Flange-Pinion-END-YOKE-10-Splines-PINION-SHAFT-FLANGE-/270923323599?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f1449d8cf&vxp=mtr

Scott if that looks like it is the same one then they were on Jeep Willys. and I see them all over the net for around $45. The Ebay one is in Israel lol. but it has all the dimensions and I assume they are metric?
Chris,

sorry I should have given more info (sure got excited about ther $50 dollar one!).

It is a 26 spline....but looks very similar to what you have posted.

Man you work fast! :worshippy1:

Howard

The flange comes from the "front end" of the rear axle differential and hooks up with the rear drive motor which is hydraulic driven. It may wobble, but it is under the machine in a tight spot and not where I can see it when it is running.
