My 10 diesel has a bad axle seal and is leaking. It has a quirky 2nd gear detent as well. So rather than just putting seals in it, i was thinking of building an JD axle core I have here and swapping the limited slip out of a 12 hydra rear if thats possible. I'm curious if anyone has ever swapped a JD peerless rear into a MF 10? It looks identical but maybe there are minor differences?

Does anybody know a cross reference for the john deere M40676 axle seals?

Do the transmissions have a Peerless tag on them. The one on my MF8 has a tag with the model no. If those match you should be good to go.

In addition to what Chris said - The shift lever would be something else I'd measure up to make sure it would fit.

My MF10 diesel has had a JD transaxle and shifter in it since the day I acquired it. the shifter fits fine. I put a 67-72 chevy truck 4 speed knob on it. The axle tubes are off of the original MF10 axle... for some reason.

FWIW, I bought an original MF shifter off of ebay a while back, the MF shifter is actually built heavier than the JD one.
