I picked up this MF12H today. It's a little rough, to say the least, the original motor is trashed, PO installed a 13hp Honda clone engine. Runs good, but the hood and possibly grill will not fit on, I haven't tried, just going by what the PO has told me, aparently he didn't want to mod the hood to fit the engine. The good thing is that it came with a 2 tillers, one has an extension on it, a nice deck, the original motor and 2nd block, and bunch of decals.

I only bought it for the tiller(s). So this will probably be for sale soon. One of the front tires doesn't hold air, and the electric start isn't wired up. I literally know nothing about the 12H, it's very very different than the 14. I do have a few questions, although I'm sure when I start searching the forum a bit I'll find most of the answeres.

Is there supposed to be a detent for neutral on the Fwd-Rev lever?

Why does the hydro feel so...spongey? Starting to move forward feels very sluggish, reverse isn't as bad. Feels weak.

Does this have a high/low or just one speed?

Congratulations on your purchase! Pity you only want the tiller ;). The 12H does not have a detent for the FWD/RVS, However, when correctly adjusted, the clutch has a cam that returns the hydro lever to the centered position. If that position does not cause the tractor to stop, then you will need to adjust the cam follower under the seat. I've had two Hydros where the cam follower was loose and worn and it would not accurately return to neutral. As for being sluggish, I don't know about that. Have you checked your hydro fluid?l

On the Scrap Massey, the belt tensioner wasn't right & the belt would slip but only when I tried to go forward. Rev worked fine & it had me worried until I realized what was happening.

Might also check the little lever on the bottom of the tranny isn't part way turned. If that was the case, I'd think both Fwd & rev would be the same.

That lever, what position should it be in? I kind of thought it would only turn like 90* but it seems more like 270* ish. Neither all the way in OR out allows the tractor to free wheel.

On my Hydro, the free wheel valve is located on the front of the transmission, up near where the frame is, and is on the left side. As I recall, long side down for freewheel, long side up for drive.

Went out and checked....Mine is as I described above.

Just an update on this little tractor. I sold the extra small tiller for $150, and sold the tractor for $350. So I got all my money back from it AND got a nice tiller w/ extension for nothing. Gotta love it.

Also picked up a dozer blade from the PO, seem to be collecting a nice assortment of attachments for my old '66 MF10.

Nice Blade. is it really in that nice of condition? Looks like NOS.

You'll need the front bracket for it. Little doo-hickey that bolts onto the bumper and keeps the plow traveling in a straight line. Also has a place for a spring to help lift the plow.

Found a pic that shows it kind of.

The blade is in very nice shape, it hasn't been used in almost 30 years, it was sitting up in the loft of a barn. There is some surface rust, but nothing is bent or out of place.

I was already looking at that bracket, the assist spring is there but no bracket. I'll have to fab one. I wish there was more detailed info w/measurements to go by.

That would be great. Thanks. Maybe someone could put together a CAD drawing of one for other members. I could try, but regular AutoCAD is a little different than Civil3D which I'm used to.

I have been known to draw up a few things. As long as good pics and all measurements needed are there, I can do something with it.

Some of those measurements are a bit hard to read. How wide is the piece on the blade that this keeps centered? It looks like 2" channel? Can't make out the overall height. 13"? 14"?

After looking back thru, I had a good guess on height. I figure it to be around 1/4" thick. The slot width I had guessed at 2-1/8", but that depends on the piece coming up off the blade.
