Hey All

I hooked up my mowing deck to my MF14 and have noticed that when not moving it runs ok, but as soon as I start to drive, I get a lot of power loss almost to the point of stalling. All the blades move freely on the deck and the belts are tight, so i'm not sure what the issue is. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Does this happen when you engage the mower or when you move the hydro lever?

Loses a bit of power when I flip the PTO to engage the mower, but bogs down pretty bad after i move the hydro lever. That's when it's most noticeable.

I small dip in RPMs when engaging the mower is normal. It sounds like something may be binding in the rear end. Possibly a bearing is binding.

Just a thought. The brakes aren't jammed on by any chance are they? It sounds like a problem in the hydro/ rearend. Does it load down when you move without the mower deck engaged? The other possibility is that the engine is not running well and is down on power.

Brakes hardly work on it, so I'm pretty sure that isn't it. It does load down when I go forward with the hydro lever which I always thought was weird.

Sounds like your governor either isn't adjusted right or isn't working.

Does the engine smoke at all? If you are familiar with the governor linkage try putting some resistance on the governor and see if it gives resistance back with the engine running.

No smoke other than at start up for one little puff. I'm not too familiar with the governor, but I do have the MF14 manual and can probably figure out where it is and try your suggestion. Thanks all for the replies! I'll start troubleshooting this evening.

If nothing is binding or jammed up, try opening the main jet just a 1/4 turn or less.
:ditto: sounds like your motor is not making the power it should.

If the governor is working and it is the carb that is set too lean you will be amazed what the proper setting will do on the carb. Plus you don't want to be running it lean and getting it hot, good way to ruin a motor.

So as it turns out, my air filter was nasty. I pulled it off and tried again and it helped a ton. A buddy of mine suggested running C-Foam in the tank to clean the fuel system as well. I'll try that, put on a new filter and try it out again... getting close! Thanks for all the tips, this forum has a wealth of knowledge!
