I think it's a great idea. When the starter clutch was acting up on my Speedex I wished it had one.

Starter clutch has been repaired but I'm still toying with adding a recoil.

Well, one BIG handle on it for sure! I have seen horizontal offered with pull-start, but guess be about same on verticals? Be something you wouldn't want to shut off much, I bet. Opening hood would get old if had to do while using.

I like it and have been toying with adding recoils to some of mine. It would sure make things easier than trying to keep up with several batterys constantly. As long as the engine has a mag setup,I think even if it has a electric starter that a backup recoil is the way to go.

As long as the valves are adjusted so the compression release works, why not? I have a 12 hp Tecumseh with pull start, not a twin but fairly big motor. I've been thinking of putting a starter on it, but it starts 1—2 pulls.
