Can anybody offer advice on getting the head off of a 1958 K-161. i have all the bolts out and the nuts off the two studs for the heat shield, the head will life on one side but near the studs it wont budge. I dont want to damage it.
This is on a Ride a Matic.

dmc, I would soak it up with Blaster and let it set for a few hours. I might also tap on it from the bottom with a SOFT MALLET . Keep working with it and it should lift off. Good Luck, and let us know how it works out for yet.

If soaking & tapping on the bottoms doesn't get it loose, there are 2 options I would try next. First I'd heat the studs till cherry red, then try tapping from the bottom. If that doesn't move it, then option 2: After the bolt cools some, spray some more penetrant on, then slip a nut back on it just level to the stud. Then using a very small pry bar, pry up from the bottom with minimal pressure as not to break a fin or the head, hold the pressure steady & tap tap tap on the nut/stud with a brass hammer. This usually jars the rust weld loose & it will slowly rise.

I'm not sure the studs will take the stress with out breaking, I don't want to break them off in the block.
