I have a serious oil leak under pressure (engine running) on Onan engine. Here's a video. Its so bad it looks like it is raining.Sorry but I could not film from underneath. Opinions on do you think it is a gasket and maybe be fixed w/o removing engine or do you think its more serious. Thanks for your reply.

Very difficult to say, but if it's not coming out the dipstick area, then I'd say it's coming out under pressure from under the rear crank bearing carrier plate. Oil comes under pressure to under this bearing plate to lube the crank journals.

It's not that hard to remove the engine on an 1855, had mine out twice, last time took less than two hours from first wrench to restart, with the help of a friend and a plenty of experience.

I know very little about onan engines but i agree with olcowhand, it defiantly seems like the oil leaking is under pressure.

I have also seen oil pan gaskets break & slip out of between the mating surfaces.

Which Onan is this? That definitely looks like a pressure leak. Is the fliter tight (if it has one)?

Kenny, should be the B48M

I can see video, but here is the motor out of my 1855, mine was leaking around the bearing plate which is the "front" when in the tractor but technically the rear of motor. Mine was more of a seeping, but I am replacing gasket while I got it out. I could see where oil was getting past gasket when I pulled plate off. Easy to get off, everything just unbolted and slid off.

I think that's where I got mine.

I also got a crank shaft seal while it was out, my luck if I hadn't it would start leaking as soon as I got it back together.

Leak fixed! It was the adapter that the oil filter screws into. The two bolts that hold it on were almost out. I tightened them up, no leak.
