I have seen a sickle bar for say a MF 12 (see picture below). Is there that fits a MF/Snapper 1650 for mid mount? Any other make that will work?

Thanks,

Reg

Ok just got a lead on a Bolens 4 foot side mount sickle bar for about $200. Good deal? Good choice to adapt to the 1650/

Any sickle mower in decent shape is worth that price. Most any can be adapted if you have the tools & ability, plus patience.

I can overhaul an engine and do some fabrication but no welder even though I can weld. Patience for fit, alignment, and adjustment? Would adapting a walk behind sickle bar for the front be any easier?

The patience is more for sitting & getting things figured out as well as possible in your head or onto paper BEFORE doing a single thing toward actual work. The best spot is mid-side of the tractor as most are on GT's. Directly in front like walk-behinds doesn't work as well because the stuff can't fall off the back as well with the tractor so near. Out behind the tractor has you twisting your neck a lot to see where you are & how the cut is doing. Right down beside & slightly forward of you is easy to see & easier to maneuver, and off to the side lets the cut stuff fall backwards over the sickle so much better. Alignment is the most critical part. Getting the belt to align properly from the mule drive is crucial. A welder is almost a must, but my Dad built GT's from car parts & didn't even have a welder at the time. He drilled & bolted it entirely.

Just thought to look through old ads you could download on GTT. Looks like they did. Now to find one. Yes, I sometimes dream big.
