I have a helper spring where the lift rod should go. Would it be ok to remove the spring? I believe that the spring is for a manual lift.

That is NOT a helper spring for the lift.

That spring assy is used with the rotary mower deck. ....It allows the mower to "float" with the ground contour.

If a hairpin clip is inserted in the small hole which is visible in the rod, the floating action is locked out.

Although the spring assy works either way, the correct way to mount it is with the rod end sticking out toward the rear of the tractor.

You can remove it, or leave it there. .....It is helpful to put a pin thru the small hole before removing the spring assy. ....It keeps the spring compressed and makes it much easier to re-install.

Thanks this is the way I bought it. What about attaching the plow blade? Does it need to be removed to attach the blade lift rod?
