I was working on my sons Cub 123 tonight and noticed that the previous own had installed a carbon core plug wire. My understanding is the Kohler K series engines used a solid wire core and not the carbon core wire. I understand the difference between the two types of wire but I was wondering if anybody here uses a carbon core wire instead of a solid core wire? Have you noticed a difference?

If you are using a battery ignition, I don't think it matters. If you have magneto ignition, you need a copper core.

I have a "suppression core" wire on the K321 I just rebuilt on the 1200 so far so good.... but ALL Ignition is brand new not just the wire.

Carbon core wire will eventually burn out.Solid core wire will not. That's about the only difference.

I had Taylor 8mm carbon core wire on my 127 with a Bosh blue coil and it lasted for about 8 months before it burnt out. My 149 had a 1.4 ohm 42,000v chrome Accel super coil on it when I got it. I made up a with 8mm Taylor wire for it and the 2nd time I fired it after rebuilding the engine the wire burnt out.

I had a spare stock coil so I put it on and made another Taylor wire up for it. That was 8 years ago and it's still working fine.

I still have a box full of White 8mm Taylor wire.They work fine if you use a stock coil but not so much if you use a Hot coil.
