Going thru a bunch of parts and sorting,, I noticed several different types of spindle bearing housings. So I went to the mauals and noticed there are several different part #s for what seem to be the same housing On a 42" tube frame deck.. How I noticed it in the first place was some of the zerks are on the spindle shaft ( on top ) and some are on the housing,, ( meaning you have to grease from the bottom )

Anyone know if they are all the same except for the zerks.???? O ,,, some are made of steel,, and some are more the aluminum, type.

The box on the aluminum ones read------- 1716949 with zerk on housing..

Steel ones no number can be read on them....

For the 42" Tube Frame decks, they are essentially the same bearing housings and are interchangeable. The early style had the grease zerk in the side of the housing, while the newer style the zerk is in the shaft. These all eventually superseded to part number 1741825 which is a complete bearing housing assembly which included the housing, 2 1185828 ball bearings and 1 1720999 spacer, which are pre-installed.

I should also add, the newer housings were all cast iron.
