I got 2 thanks today on posts that I made last year. Same post. I posted pictures of my sons birthday. I clicked the members name and it said they no longer exist.

Spammers?

The first seven thanks on the first post are spammers.

We have a spam filter (that works 60% of the time) that weeds out the known IP #'s that spam. The ones that work a little harder at it actually go through the registration process and become members. But, their first post has to be approved manually by a moderator. Since lots of spammers are working from overseas, they tend to get on and try their first post between 10 pm and 6 am. When that post doesn't show, they start hitting buttons to try and get validated. Some even make a first post that makes sense, and end up with posting privileges. But then they drop their spam and the boot they gets.

Kenny gets most of them, and DougT goes through them like a plow thru powder when they get bad. Like right now.

I really hate to bring this up but in this day and age, it needs to be brought to the forefront. Given the subject matter of your pictures (I haven't seen them, just going by what you said), it's not exactly spammers that I would worry about. I don't post pics of my kids on open boards like this for a reason. Be vigilant in what you post and know that not everyone is interested in the tractors. Just a reluctant thought.

Very good point David. Family photos, especially with a house number or mail box with address is not recommended. Same with phone numbers and email address. Be mindful of your kinds use their cell phones for also. An acquaintance just found out her 10 yo daughter sent a guy nude photos of herself. Just saying you can not be careful enough this day and age.

As near as we can tell, these spammers are just that.
Mostly Trying to get you to see ads about cheap Viagra and the like

If someone wants pics of my family, they just have to find my wife on Facebook.

And to the parents whose daughter did that, they have a long road ahead.
Hopefully some good comes of it and they reassembly as a stronger family and the police find the guy.

Once again I want to thank ALL the mod's that deal with this crap for the rest of us. Before this posting I had no idea such nonsense went on that needed cleaned up. I'm talking spammers here (not the voters not mentioned above...)

Thanks for the responses. Like someone else said above, if people want pictures of my family look at my wife's facebook. She probably posted a picture of what she had for lunch today.

I was just curious, thought it was odd, that it was an extremely old post and the member "No longer exist" Thought something funny was going on like a spammer, or something.

Never realized how much goes into keeping the spam off this website. After 4,340 posts maybe I could sell my account to spammers and they could sublimely try to get you to buy mail order Viagra!
