Two months ago, my doorbell rang, and it was a gentleman from the city. He informed me that he was driving by and noticed that the two trees in the front of the house were in need of removal.

He then gave me the good news, which is that they were within "X" distance from the center of the street, and that it would be the city's responsibility to have them removed.

Now this was VERY good news, as we were planning on having them cut down, and knew that it wasn't going to be cheap.

Anyway he spray painted a orange dot on them and said that they would be out to take them down 'sometime in the future'.

Well that 'sometime' was yesterday. I guess I should have taken a vid, but I did get a few pics. It was quite an operation, and they were here and gone in @ 2 1/2 hrs. I asked the guy about the chipper, and he said that it would handle logs up to 20".

Oh, they will also be back to grind out the stumps

Next wind storm and your house might have been wearing that rotten tree. Really nice of them to come and take them out for you. Excellent photos also.

Great shots, thanks. You made out really good. When the government comes and takes them, that is good news.

That happened to me too. I called a contractor to take down a tree near the road. He used to be the Town's contractor for trees. He said that's a Town tree and they should do it. I called the Town and two weeks later the Town's tree was gone. Would have been two thousand if not.

Congratulations. They will fill in top soil and seed it too after the stumps come out.

As soon as I read "city", i thought you meant like you lived way out in country and they came out which puzzled me but now that I see the pics I see what you meant. They did a good job and very quick too. Looks good and yes those chippers are monsterous. I see them alot in my area...always doing work for power companys, gas companies, townships, etc... thanks for the pics!

Looks like a very professional job. Too bad you or someone else couldn't have used the sound wood for heat.

I to was puzzled when you said somebody from the city came. It was great that they took them down for you! It would have been a pretty penny to pay somebody yourself!
