Great site! Brand new member and I've been perusing info and topics. Excellent! My first post, I hope I'm in the right spot. I've got a few Bolens walk behind garden tractors, a Power Ho and Versa Matic models. My question is on wheel/tire size compatability. Here's the deal. Bolens filled some of their wheels with calcium chloride from the factory back in the 50's for weight, and over time, once the valves leaked, it just ate up those wheels/rims. So many Bolens wheels on the walk behinds are shot. The tire size on some of these was a 5-12, so 12" rim but 5" width, pretty narrow. I measured the wheel width, and from outside edge to edge it looks like 5". Now I have a few of the 6" width garden tractor wheels, for a 6" width tire. My question is, can you mount a 5" width tire on a 6" rim/wheel? The 5" width narrow wheels are nearly impossible to find, I've tried. I'm just curious if I could mount my 5" tire (they're in good shape, tube tires) on the 6" wheel? Thanks in advance for any help or info! Much appreciated!
