So I finally got to take the 1254 around the yard today. I bought it a couple of months ago, but it needed a new steering column, some wiring repairs, and a carb rebuild to make it right. I still need to fine tune the carb and replace a leaky input shaft seal, but it's useable now.

Just wanted to say thanks for all answering all of my dumb new guy questions. I plan to use this spring to get my garden in, then I'll rip it apart for the resto and paint job.

The only dumb question is the one that you don't ask. We were ALL new guys at on point.

Actually, since I brought it up, how do I replace the front seal of the transmission? I unbolted the coupling, but I can't move the driveshaft far enough to get it out of the way. Do I need to pull the driveshaft, and if so how?

Sorry I missed this.

There's 2 Allen bolts on each side of the drive shaft coupling , the ones closer to the trans may be hard to get at.

To make things easier I'd pull off the trans cover then loosen up the clutch plate so you can move the driveshaft aside.

I've got the coupling off, but I can't move the driveshaft to the side far enough to get the flange off the trans input shaft. Is there anything on the front of the driveshaft I can loosen up to get some more movement?
