So looking around the internet for a G-14 ignition switch has been an utter headache..

Asking others on this forum if they have them and searching Ebay on a regular basis is becoming a weekly occurrence. So my questions are this:

Can another switch be used in place of the required part (1722275)?

- Assuming I don't know what the letters mean on the switch (S-C-B-O-D) and what the letters mean on another switch.

Can a DIY toggle pushbutton / switch be used???

- Assume I am a complete noob and might have licked a 9v or 2?

- Might have to get some of my Navy buddies to decipher any recommendations.

Any Ideas, thoughts, locations, networking and appx. prices would be greatly appreciated!!

Bolens expert shoudl be along, but.....

Does that have a Tecumseh motor with the SSI module?

If so, I am betting you need one with a

Ground- obvious

Battery- feeds from or in amater circuit

Ignition- Hot when on, used for lights also, some have an L instead

Start- obvious, feeds solenoid or starter

Magneto- kill wire for the SSI module is so equiped.

Been awhile since I had a NOS one in my hands so to refresh my memory can you post a picture of what the back looks like?

We may be able to find an alternative as I do not think Indak makes an exact replacement for this particular switch anymore.

Check your NAPA store. If possible take the wiring diagram with you and they will match one of their switch with what you need. Main thing will be grounded or non-grounded, and to one terminal hot with the switch in the run AND start position. This can be metered out rather easily with an ohm meter. I got one for my 1053 that worked perfect. Good luck.

Hello Matt and welcome to GTTalk.

From the information you have supplied so far, the switch part # (1722275) and tractor model (G-14), I will assume it's a Bolens Model #1453 with a Serial # within 0100101 to 0399999.

For the letters and what they stand for (hook up to and assuming wiring is original colors) ...

S - runs green wires thru 2 interlock switches to the start solenoid engage terminal.

C - has a white wire going to the center tab of the rectifier-regulator and a black wire running to the Light switch.

B - is a red wire with a 30 Amp fuse inline and connects to the ammeter + terminal. The - terminal of the ammeter with a Brown wire goes to the battery side of the start solenoid and that ties on to the battery + terminal with a Heavy battery lead wire.

O - connects to nothing at all and has no internal connection in any key position.

D - a Black wire runs to a connector that is at the motor for the SS ignition. It is the ground needed when the switch is in the Off position. This D terminal ONLY grounds out in the Off position and is open in any other key position.

Here is the description of what happens in the switch when you turn the key ...

In the OFF position D is grounded to the switch casing.

In the RUN position B connects to C

In the START position B connects to S

Any good 4 pin with a battery-start-run-ground terminal setup for a SS ignition should work.

So I will be taking the switch to my local auto parts store to see what they can do for me.

I appreciate all the help and look forward to any other recommendations you guys have.

I also provided a picture of my engine plate for your guys questions (TAHOE) about certain parts!!

Thanks!!

Matt

Label each wire to the terminal it is connected to and to where it goes in the system. Seeing you have a 5th terminal connected to something doesn't match up with the description I gave from the wiring diagram.

That 5th wire could be a separate wire to the light switch ?
