Introduced in 1949, it sported a 4 hp Wisconsin engine, 6.00 x 16 tires, and a three speed transmission. A reverse attachment became available in later years.

At 317 lbs, it also weighed in at 105 pounds more than the Model 20, also introduced that year. The label was also moved from the front left side, below the engine, to behind the engine on the mounting tray.

The larger tires gave it an additional 3" of ground clearance (13" in all) over the model 20.

The 40 was also wider: min 17", max 28".

There is, to my knowledge, no official SN records for the Waterloo Model 40. I can tell you that SN 4646 was build in 1953. I have that tractor with the original engine, which was built in 1953.
