My 12 hr trip is finally over! Left Central Ct. for Northern New Jersey at 7am and got to the first stop around 10:30. Bought the 58 RAM, model 220 01 serial 35617. Incorrect engine (8hp B&S IC) no hood or belt guard. I drove it, steering is fairly tight. Center mowing deck. So, it's my parts tractor for the others.

Headed down to the Garden State Pkwy and drove for 25 miles on that road at maybe 25mph max! It was sheer terror with those nuts on that road!! Finally got to HankG"s ( member here) home and right on time. I bought the plow and the hardware and a Harrow? plow from him. I'm happy. He has a super nice 57 RAM and 4 other makes of early lawn tractors. Superb work! Really nice gentleman in my book!

Had lunch and then headed back up the Garden State. Traffic wasn't as bad going up as going down. Still a lot of cars! Went over the Tappan Zee bridge, the new one is going to be huge! Got home at 6:30 and unloaded. I'm beat.

I will post a few pics tomorrow.

I can't seem to get ahold of the guy with the one with all the attachments. He won't answer my emails. So, I gave up. This will be our last trip for a while. I am exhausted this morn. I did see another 1000 on C/list in Robesonia, Pa. $350.00 Not sure if it had any attachments. I'd like one, but not right now.

Nice early plow there. I did see the other 1000 and it does have the proper seat, but the rear fender is busted, and things looked to be somewhat "customized" here and there. It also says no attachments, so I think he is a bit steep on it.

Yes, I saw the back where it was broken. It did seem like a lot of $$ for what you are getting. I've learned from ypou not to touch one with the panel broken like that, unless it was for parts.

That's why I always plan on going thru NY in the middle of the night and stopping to rest somewhere along the way, I hate traffic. :wallbanging:

Nice looking tractor you picked up, makes it worth the troubles.

I like the trill of the hunt, meeting new people and scoring a few deals. The only problem is I'm 62 and not as young as I was..... My wife likes to go as I have to stop at the garden centers and look at plants. Small price to pay.

I know what you mean. I usually take one big trip a year to get different things all the good stuff is up in Massachusetts New York western Pennsylvania probably going to Ohio again this fall unless I have it shipped. but for all the bolens that were around in the 60s-70s there would be a lot still out here but there's nothing really just my junk. They were high dollar for a lawnmower back in 67 my grandpa got a new 850 it's was $825.00 then he got a sprayer to do his fruit trees will I kno I have the bill of sale for the 850 but have to see about the sprayer

I'm going to give u 2 hints how to get the most power an to just lide nice and smooth and easy/faster starts. These old engines were
Made to run on leaded gasoline an it was just just all different now. These do t like run good with this ethanol gas. When I have money I buy vp race gas I think it's 98 octane but it's 30 some dollars for 5 gallons that fuel doesn't have ethanol but if don't want to spend that much on fuel u have to atleast get 94 at sonoco
