Onan 16 hp engine was totally rebuilt 10 hours ago, all sheet metal is straight with only surface rust on the paint (it was stored inside for the last 14 years), both new front tires and tubes, rear tires are dry rotted and will not hold air, seat pad and cover is shot, mower deck operates as it should, comes with the front mount blade, will need a battery. No rear 3 point or PTO unfortunately. I have the hood off to work on the wiring.

Tough question... what ones willing to pay ?.... put a price on it based on your investment into it, totally rebuilding an Onan had to be costly ! Documentation of such will help on its selling points, as it sits now you have to consider a few knocks on price due to what some may consider "project stage". I certainly would start with my investment price and entertain any reasonable offer. Good luck.

I hear ya' on the rebuild documentation. The gentleman I bought it from said the rebuild cost his dad $1000 but he has no paperwork on it (he recently passed away). I can trust him though (longtime friends) but I'm not sure how far that will get me on the resale.

Definitely pick up a cheap battery, Wal-Mart type and put it in there. Or better yet if you have one that is a couple years old put it in there and get you a good Interstate for your own. A tractor don't sell well without a battery.

I bought my 155 in 2012, running with 54 deck and rear 5' blade for $400. Switch was busted for deck son didn't know if it worked. After I got home, starter bolt broke and let down a rode of pulled motor, new belts, driveshaft and other parts. I have about 800 in it now.

I would say maybe 6-800?

It's one of those things that you have to look at from both ends. One end is, what is it worth based on parts it has, and the money that has been put into it. The other end, is what is it going to cost to get it fully functional. Then, the real value ends up somewhere in the middle.

For instance, there's been $1,000 put into the engine. New front tires and tubes, maybe $150. A clean 1655 with deck and blade, is worth another 700 - 900 depending on condition of the plastics, the steering play/bind, how many hours are on it, condition of the pulleys on the deck and splined shafts, etc. Add all that up, and you're pushing $2,000!

From the other end, a buyer would be looking at buying a battery ($100 for a good sized automotive), two rear tires ($200), a three point hitch and cylinder presumably ($300), a seat ($75), rear PTO parts (??), some paint and cosmetics (??), etc. Add this up, and you're looking at investing another $700 - 1000 to get a fully functioning unit!

So, I don't know. Somewhere between $400 and $1,100 seems fair :)

There is a 1655 on the Ames, Ia craigslist right now for $875 that I would buy without question if I wasn't buying a house and getting married this year! I have the 1st 1655 ever made (SERIAL NUMBER 1) and I paid $2000 for it but it came with a 4850 tiller and a snow blower as well as a deck. I know this reply comes several months after you asked but I hope it helps!

You could've saved $2,000 by waiting another 30 minutes to call on it. Because by then, I would've bought it!! :)

If I recall, that one had power steering on it too?
