Hello folks, couple of things going on with the old 12G but I will only go into one right now since it is crucial to mowing again with really fast growing grass!

The engine to vari-drive belt broke and I am needing a new one fast. Not having any luck with the 2 numbers from the reference page in the sticky above.

From my measurements of the broken belt it seems to be a metric size, which makes sense I suppose since the tractor was built up there I think. Here is a link to the one I THINK it may be? I am not sure of the depth measurement though. 8mm matches the thinnest part between the cogs.

http://www.vbeltsupply.com/variable-speed-belts/metric-variable-speed-belts/22mm-top-width/22x8x1250-metric-variable-speed-belt.html

The closest US measurement i can find is an inch shorter circumference and I am pretty sure this belt hasn't stretched an inch.

Was mowing in real ugly conditions, lots of mud and standing water with the deck in the "up" position. Fortunately the belt broke after I had started mowing the good part of the yard where it was easy to push it back to the shop!

Thanks in advance for any help!

According to my info as a Massey dealer, I see 515382M1 as the part number and the official dimensions as 7/8x45. I think the originals were wrapped Kevlar belts (standard lawn and garden fare) unless I am seeing something wrong.

Am I going to need a 4x4 to get to our cabin on Saturday? We're heading your way, hell or high water!

If I find a belt, I'll bring it along with.
Did you say once that you had a cabin in the Hill City area? They had some pretty extensive flooding about a week ago, but we are all very used to a flood just about every day right now as even a small rain causes it, and we are getting rain darnnear every day right now. Sounds like this belt may have stretched 4"!!!

That measurement seems to be the majority consensus, Ben! This broken belt measures 7/8 (22mm also) x 49-1/4 on the cogged side! I sure never expected one to stretch that far!

Do you have one? Can I get a price? You guys are the experts, not me, that's why I'm a paid member here! I need all the expertise I can get!

I am having trouble sourcing one myself, although I could get one from Gates from the way it looks.

I'll check Massey's price tomorrow.

Hey all, thanks for the info from all of you! I ordered the one esbbent listed here, and billing went directly to A&I products. Says it's a 7/8" x 45" so it should be right. Old Smokey may be moving under it's own power again soon!

This site is the best!

They are still available from agco.I think they're around $50 give or take.
$40 is what I see for the variable speed in a cute Massey package. :smilewink:

I imagine with shipping it would still end up about the 50 dollar mark. The A&I belt came to $53 bucks shipped.

Thanks again for the help, everyone!---DAC

Just renting.
I hope your trip to the Black Hills goes well, Cat! The torrential rains have been starting in the middle of the night, and storms that get us out here in Rapid Valley normally have come through the direction of Hill City. 2 more inches at our house last night again between 12:30 and 3:30 am, 2.5" at work less than 2 miles away. Many roads are closed and it is starting to sprinkle again right now with severe thunderstorms in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow. Here's a couple pics. First ones are this morning about 5:30 and the last one is a crappy stupidphone pic I took about 4:30 this afternoon. I drove to work this morning though where my co-worker in the 4x4 is going and the water had not risen yet. Since I was driving the old '55, a little longer route home was my choice. i wasn't concerned about the current since the truck sits as high as modern 4x4's but worried a bit about water-stalling the engine.

Hopefully this mess will mellow out for the weekend! I guess it was a good time to break the MF12 since it is too wet to attempt any mowing now!

Holy Moly. We're staying just west of Merritt, 261, Rockford Road.

Hope this one misses ya.
You probably mean Rochford road, Cat. Rochford is one of my favorite areas of the hills. If your cabin isn't to far west of Highway 385 you shouldn't have much trouble getting there. There are many sub-roads and even well used roads closed around here right now but you probably know more than me for that area at the moment. That's about 30 miles west of where we live, slightly north..
