i have a john Deere D110 lawnmower with 62 hours on it. I just changed the battery due to not starting. Before changing battery it would turnover but not start. After I changed the battery I turn the key and get nothing but a whining noise.what could be wrong?

Did you hook up the new batt backward. Not trying to insult you but it happens to the best.

How old was the battery the store sold you? How big is it in CCA's?

Sounds like the starter is not getting enough amperage to spin the engine, but enough voltage to click the solenoid.

Welcome to GTT. The whinning is probably the starter spinning but the Bendix gear not engaging. This could be that it is sticking or that the motor is spinning backwards(see above). Good Luck, Rick

Couple things could be wrong here. It mostly sounds like you don't have enough juice, or your starter is worn out. Sounds like the bendix is engaging the flywheel, but it's not turning over. The solenoid should be fine cause we hear a noise when the key is turned. Remove the power wire to the starter and turn the key. If you hear a click we've ruled out the solenoid for sure.

Check the starter by taking it off and energizing it on the work bench. see if the Bendex is coming out, use Graphite to lubricate the Bendex if needed.
