I just started getting into my 1100 cub cadet. Anything special about them? Just want to know some info and different options the 1100 had

The 1100 is a stripped down version of the Quietline models. It uses a Peerless transmission that is belt drive instead of the Farmall Cub style shaft drive gear transmission. It was designed by IH to compete more with the cheaper box store mowers back in the day. They can be somewhat collectible since they didnt make as many of them as they did the regular Quietlines. It was the first Cub Cadet to use the Peerless transmission as well as the first to use a Briggs engine. It also used the same attachments as the rest of the Quietline series did.

The first three digits are the "kind code" designating what type of machine it is, 205 being a garden tractor. The next 4 digits are the "machine code", in this case 0590 designates it as a model 1100. The "U" designates it as made in the united states. Finally the numbers after the "U" are the actual serial number. Since the first number for march of 79 was 648387, your tractor 648587 is the 200th tractor from march of 79. That number includes ALL cub cadets made as there was no break in the numbers for each different model and they just gave sequential numbers to the various models in order as they came down the production line.

I was wondering how it could be belt drive with the motor sitting in the frame like that, but I see it has a shaft to a 90 degree gearbox with a belt to the rear. I've never seen one of these up close. Pretty interesting. Thanks for the pictures.

Where did you find a new carb for $100? Parts tree has them listed for over $224. The rebuild kit for it is now up to $118. I have a 482 with the same engine/transmission setup as your 1100. I got lucky and my dealer has a rebuild kit that had been sitting on the shelf for years. He sold it to me for $40. I have a extra engine in piece if you need parts. I have a carb but it's missing the throttle shaft.
