You can hook the foot throttle up to the governor that way the throttle cable can still be use to maintain rpm's if needed. I would have to look up a youtube video or such to give exacts. I know the mud mower crowd does this a lot using just an old bicycle brake lever and cable bolted to foot board. The pulling crowd uses actually pedals.

 

The thing is, an air cooled small engine is designed to run at a constant speed to keep it cool etc. Also, when doing a chore (cutting, tilling, plowing), you want a constant speed. A tractor is not like a car where you are in traffic and must get on and off the throttle.

 

Yeah, the pullers have those all the time, ask for their help. I think Most are just using race car systems, might be a little more money for those, and seems they are kinda big on the platform. I always thought would be neat to have also, specially if on a loader tractor. I once had a Jet Star 3 MM that I copied the foot control in catalog too. Was kinda neat. That was all rods tho, and spring on one to take up more over-movement and such and was all hooked into the hand throttle with little chain and spring. You seem to come up with gadgets, would think you could make up one.

I think i mentioned this in another thread on this subject. Think of making a de-celerator like on Cats, that way you don't have to hold the pedal down all the time.

Wouldnt that require a 2 foot shift? Unless you are dirt tracking the thing, I really dont see the need for a foot throttle. A gear tractor doesnt rap out like a car does when you push in the clutch. I find a good rpm for the work I am doing and leave it there.

With a decelerator your foot is off the pedal and engine is running at full governed speed or wherever you set the hand throttle. If you want to bring the engine down to a lower speed or idle you push down on the pedal. Otherwise your foot is off the pedal.

that is what I was picturing. So you have to use both feet to shift if you have one that doesnt like to change gears at high RPM

 

I put a foot throttle on my Power King working the way you ask about . I did it because of have a loader on it and gear drive , It was well worth the effort for me .

As a 15 year old, a friend and I put a gas pedal on a tractor bypassing the governor.

It was a lot of fun. The tractor ran like a scalded dog and did wheelies.

When my friend's older brother (who had bought the tractor) found it, he pulled it off before we had the chance to destroy the whole tractor.

I was bummed!

 

I would leave the governor involved and just run a foot actuated cable up to a spring, then to the linkage.
Make sure the spring isn't to strong for the gov to fight back. Also, make sure wherever you hook up won't try to actuate the regular gas control.

Is there something on your tractor not working right which you are compensating for, or are you trying to make it into something it is not, or something like tractor pulling? just for fun?

I ran a Kubota that had a loader and foot throttle along with the standard lever. Use the lever for whatever constant speed you wanted. Foot throttle when you needed the loader to speed up, more power, or when you were traveling between spots to speed up the process. Plus it had power shift. So while working the throttle, you could shift on the fly. Like driving a truck down the road. For plowing or loader work, I could see the advantage. Set you idle and gear, use the foot throttle to speed things up when needed.

That's what I'm lookin for Eric. I want to set the hand throttle while driving and be slow enough to have a comfortable ride, then when I go into the row to cultivate I can give her the gas to do the work and still have a comfortable ride while working the rows or out on the field turning around to get to the next row. And it's just be neat to have !!!!

You might want to stare at the case va series setup.
They had a hand throttle that you set the throttle with (it moved the foot throttle) but the foot throttle had no effect on the hand throttle. You could goose it at the end of a row to turn around, give it a bump when you knew you were about to lug the engine, that kind of thing.
The gov still worked just fine.

Picture two plates of flat steel on the same pivot. About 3/16 x 3x 1. There is a 1/2" gap between. Welded on the one plate is a stop that sticks over 3/4" so the can't swing past each other. The plate with the tab is actuated by the hand throttle and will push against the back of the second plate goes to both the gov and the foot feed.
When you move the hand throttle, it activates both pieces and thereby runs the gov, the foot feed doesn't move the hand plate, only the gov rod.

Hard to explain, but if you find a couple pics, it'll make sense (I hope)

 

I wanted to try taking a picture of how the foot and hand throttle attach but the hood covers it so much but I will try to explain . The foot throttle has an extra spring to pull it back , either hand or foot throttle will over come the other without bind ,because it's hook to where the original hand throttle was there was no changing the governor setting or anything like that . Hope that helps
