I have an old 42" sears dozer blade. I did find the model number (917.99550) but doing google searches only finds a basic parts list and a very rough teardown image. I would like to know what the year is and if I can find a full manual. I have it attached to my 1966 custom 6 for plowing snow. The bevel adjustment bar is broken and it appears that the skid plates are missing.

You can see in this image how the bevel bar is tipped over.

EDIT: Scroll to bottom for solution. Its missing parts, is slightly modified, and for some reason has an incorrect tag.

Something ain't right here as Sears parts says that is a 'snowthrower'. Hmmmmmmmmm?

Look here for the 917.253330 Sears Snow Blade. Looks very similar to yours.

I would look thru this thread
http://gardentractortalk.com/forums/topic/2654-dozer-blade-is-missing-a-piece/#entry27111
And download the manual listed on post 6

You should either have the short ones shown on page 4 of that manual or the long ones I built replicas of in the thread.

At the risk of being melodramatic, Don't move any more snow without one or the other as that ront axel is NOT designed to take all the stress.
Thanks for the warning. I won't continue to push snow with it until I find the parts needed. I probably shouldn't even be using this plow on a compact sears.

I wonder why the blade has an incorrect tag and an unusual pivot lock. It must of been modified and painted long time ago.

EDIT: I don't have these support brackets. Ill have to make a couple.

That sears will push more snow that you'll expect. I just want to make certain it doesn't let you down.
Building a set of the rods isn't hard (especially the short ones) and then you'll be back in the saddle.

If you think something is wonky with the plow, study the exploded view at the end of that manual... They never really changed all that much. Maybe it will shed a little light on the situation.

Yes you should. That plow was designed for that tractor and works very well. I have the same plow; only my lift handle is mounted on the other side. Could supply close up of the pivot rod attachment if needed. Can't tell from your pictures what is wrong. Something is not in the correct position or as you said been modified.

No bars with the blower either? It requires them also. That was a nice write-up by MH81. Should be able to make some that will work with both.

If you need measurements, let me know. I have both the long and the short ones. Long bars are currently on the tractor with the plow. Moved stuff around in the barn today to mount blower. Will be next week before that happens though.

No bars for the blower either. I won't be using the blower anytime soon though. I need to find the pulley that goes on the motor. You can share the measurements if you want. I printed out @MH81's instructions.

Well I was mistaken. Since I have yet to mount the snow blower on the ST/10 (same as Custom), I failed to realize the short and long support bars were different. The blower mount at the axle is in a different configuration than the plow; thus, bar end is also different. Short blower bar is 27 1/4" overall length, 1/2" rod with flattened end for tractor and 'L' shape on other with hole for pin.

Pictures:

Front pivot mount:

Remember yours should be opposite of mine. (lift handle on other side of tractor)

Short bars should be easy to make when its time to mount the blower. MH81 gave good detail on the longer bars.

Good luck and don't get discouraged with finding that blower pulley.

I got more pictures of the pivot / bevel adjustment bar. Its a vertical bar instead the horizontal. I need to buy a couple meters of flat metal bars to make the supports.

That looks factory. Wonder if it should be bent over to the side? That bottom pin has me scratching my head. Does it go all the way across into another hole?

Yep it does reach over to the other side but isn't long enough to attach an e-clip to that side. The bar might be bent a bit or both outer e-clips should in the inside of the frame.

Would it be ok If I was to build a support frame out of 2x4 for the time being? I can easily drill out holes for large bolts.

I think it should be ok. Just make sure that it is tight with NO movement front to rear. Go from the bottom of the plow mount to the rear of the tractor. Again, the front to rear twisting of the front axle needs to be eliminated. Measure twice and cut once.

Removed the plow from the ST/10 and snapped a few pictures of the long support bars. Figured I would add them to this post for future reference.

My bars are of the later 2 piece design, but could easily be fabricated as one piece. Bar is 1" outside diameter, 49 3/4" overall length, holes are 5/8", and end stub is also 5/8". I use the last set of holes on my setup. For the bars, 3/4" electrical conduit or 3/4" pipe should be strong enough. Cut off 5/8" bolt with washer and weld to the front. Watch out for welding galvanized, don't breath the fumes. Drill hole for pin.

At the front end, there is a bow of ~1/4".

Hope this helps,

Brian

I have the original owners manual for this grader blade and it's fairly in depth . I also still have the blade and all the attachments and I'm in the process , probably this fall , of fabricating a plate that will attach to my JD e series tractor ( front weight bracket ) and also the brackets to attach the long stabilizing arms to the rear of the tractor .
If your interested in a copy of this manual you can PM me and we'll work out the details .

I do really appreciate the thought. I would rather like to see the manual get copied into a PDF format and uploaded onto here like what @KennyP said.

I wish I could upload or download or PDF a format , but I don't know how to , any help provided and I may give it a whirl , I need to be more knowledgeable about this stuff , I only learned how to send e-mails a year or so ago so I'm pretty far behind the loop . I can fix stuff though so I ain't completely dumb . I would be glad to send this stuff if I knew how . I have complete manuals on the plow , disc , cultivator and grader blade as well as the 74 Sears Suburban tractor .

You'll need to scan the manuals in to puter language first. That can be intimidating to start with. There is a business that does that, but the name eludes me right now!
