Tapered shaft adapters?

Hi all,

I recently bought 2 never used B&S 13 horsepower complete engines for $150 each.

They were removed from new generators and replaced with small diesel engines.

Now I have to get from the dreaded tapered crankshaft to a straight shaft.

Does anyone know where I can get 2 adapters?

Thanks,

Dave

Buy an Adapter Or put a regular crankshaft in them.

1" tapered adapter

1 1/8" tapered adapter.

Did some digging and found part numbers for a 1" keyed crankshaft for the 13hp briggs vanguard horizontal shaft OHV engines. Briggs Crankshaft Part # 716181

Pretty expensive if you but one new but it might be worth it in the long run. https://www.ereplacementparts.com/crankshaft-p-1732858.html

Great question. I want to know too. I have heard about those before. I don't have any need for them right now , but still nice to know.

I think that there was a couple of different diameters and tapers among the brands of generators. I have had a couple that I have removed the crank from and taken to the machine shop for my applications they we're able to cut off the taper and machine what was left to the diameter I needed, cut a keyway and end drill/tap the crank. IDK what that would cost because at the time I had a buddy of mine in industrial maintenance that had access to the machine shop at work. I no longer have that connection, factory closed, everyone was let go
