FOR SALE: Sears Craftsman GT-18 from 1984. The model number is 917.253.744
It features a 18HP Briggs & Stratton opposable horizontal shaft 2 cylinder engine, it is geared with a hydrodrive 6 speed transmission and a 44" enclosed mower deck. To the best of my knowledge the tractor is complete (except for the seat).

However, I can tell you that the previous owner said that the engine threw a rod, although, I have not been able to find any evidence of that, YET. It kind of doesn't matter though. The owner said the motor hasn't run in quite some time. My thinking is that anyone doing a restoration would want to tear the engine down and replace any parts that wouldn't keep this thing running forever. No doubt that the years haven't been kind to it, but it will come back better than ever with some TLC and elbow grease.

Anyone who restores tractors realizes this is an amazing find. Most tractors this old usually is missing the mower deck and other parts. Also the GT-18 uses so many attachments that it is highly sought after to run snowblower, plow, thatcher, and numerous towables. Price is $450.00 firm.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I will do my best to answer them.

Looking at the pics, this cannot be a 1984. That body style ended in 1983! And I wouldn't give that kind of money for a non-running tractor!

I think he put the decimal in the wrong place

45 bucks sounds about right for it since its a restoraion project

Lots of people with little knowledge, thinking what they have is a gold mine, have to love what shows like the pickers, antque road show, storage wars etc. giving false prices on things, they may sell them at that price but how long does it take before the sucker comes along

In my opion he will have this tractor till the day he dies or it rots before he gets 450 firm

The two Craftsman II I have 1988 vintage were purchased for less than $100 each, and they started up with fresh battery and gas before the restores.
If it threw a rod, doubt that would help, Larry!

I am going strictly by the model number. When I entered it in the search function, that is the year listed. How do I confirm the correct year?
That style was only available between 1981-1983, 1984's were boxy looking.

Thanks for your comments. I'll have to re-think my asking price or maybe part it out.
I don't believe anyone here was trying to offend you. Just everyone's opinion including myself. Some models are definitely more desirable than others. Not so sure about yours with the shape that it is in.

A lot of guys here live, eat and drink garden tractors and know what they're talking. They've seen many people come and go asking prices that would make your eye's water. I guess you can ask anything you want but you might want to be prepared for smack if the amount seems ridiculous. Though that can happen no matter what price you are asking sometimes.

Just my humble opinion....????
